Fresher’s week is basically your official introduction to Uni life. Don’t take it too seriously everyone’s in the same boat. Have fun, meet new people and build a lifetime of memories.
What actually happens during freshers week?
Freshers Week is your welcome into the Uni lifestyle. All about making friends and getting to know your new city. It’s a week to have fun, before the early morning lectures kick in.
Welcome events
Welcome talks and events might not sound like the most exciting thing on the Freshers week calendar but hear us out.
They’re your first chance to meet your lecturers, course mates and figure out what your course will involve, including the rooms you will be spending lots of time in.
Plus, it’s a great chance to explore the campus. Have a wander around and discover the place everyone hangs out between lectures.
Meeting your flatmates
Exciting? Absolutely. Nerve-racking? Also, absolutely. Meeting the new people you’re going to live with is a pretty big deal. The easiest way to break the ice? Actually spend some time together.
Keep your door open, hang out in the kitchen or head out and explore a new area together. Even something as simple as putting some music on and playing some classic card games or party games can turn a group of strangers into people you are laughing with at 1am.
Societies & sports
If there is one thing every fresher should do, it’s go to the society and sports fairs.
Societies and sports clubs are the core of student life. They are where you find you’re people, build your social circle and end up with plans on a random Wednesday that turns into unforgettable memories.
If you’re wondering where the best nights out, socials and good times come from, this is where you will find them.
Nights out
Freshers week is a heavy week for nights out, go with different people you meet like your flatmates or course mates and experience the nightlife in your new city. Many places will hold fresher’s events that are ideal for meeting new people.

How to make friends during Freshers Week
It’s everyone’s first week, no one really knows what they are doing. Be friendly and be yourself, don’t be too nervous to go speak to people. Get to know your flatmates by asking simple ice breaker questions and spending time in the common area. Join a society or sports club to spend time with people who have the same interests as you, that’s immediately something to talk about.
And if you’re stuck for a conversation starter, “Fancy coming out tonight?”, has been doing some heavy lifting for generations.
Freshers Events and Nights Out
Freshers week isn’t complete without getting your mates together and going out for a proper night. Throughout the week there will be plenty of events and nights out for you to go to, whether you’re after a club night, themed night or you’re first big student night, these are where the good times begin.
And the freshers calendar just got a whole lot more colourful with VK Freshers Tour, bringing good times and plenty of VK. Find your city. Grab your mates. Get involved.

Going to the VK Freshers tour? Before you head out make sure you’ve got your pre-drinks sorted, whether you’re heading to someone’s flat for pre’s or having them in your kitchen with your flatmates we have got you covered.
Freshers drinks: What to Drink Before You Go Out
Whether you are stocking up your flat for pre-drinks or just looking for something easy to crack open whilst getting ready, your freshers drink is almost as important as the outfit. So which drinks are you choosing?
Alcopops are a freshers classic for a reason. These sweet, fruity, ready to go alcoholic drinks are the perfect option for convenient choice.
From the iconic flavours of VK to the classic, zesty taste of Hooch, there is plenty to choose from. Fancy mixing things up? Soopa Hooch brings even more energy to the drinks fridge, while VK Vodbox is made for getting the party started with your mates.
Want to enjoy a cocktail on your freshers week without turning your student-kitchen into a full-blown cocktail bar? Canned cocktails make getting ready for a night out with a good drink seriously easy. Keep them chilled in your fridge, grab your mates, and you’ve got a simple option for pre-drinks without having a shopping list full of mixers and cocktail ingredients.
Explore All Shook Up and Gather Gourmet Cocktails for fruity cocktails that are the perfect addition to your pre-drinks stash. Or grab a Quadz, resealable, pocket-sized cocktail, easy to take along when heading from the flat to meet your mates.
Sometimes you just can’t beat a cold beer. Easy to chill, easy to share and perfect for everything from getting ready with your flatmates to starting the pres. Keep the fridge stocked and you will always have something for when the group chat says, “Who’s flat?”.
For the lager crew, Skinny Lager is an easy choice, whilst Skinny Mixed Berry Fruit Cider offers a fruity twist for cider fans. And if you’re after something with bright, bold flavour Amigos Tequila Flavoured Beer brings something different to your pre-drinks.
And just like that, you are ready for Freshers week!
